The candidate was applying for a remote commercial-counsel role. Over six weeks, the process moved through seven conversations: a recruiter, the role’s manager, a prospective teammate, HR, finance, sales and finally the CEO.

The author says the role paid about 10% below market. Even so, they kept turning up as the employer added another person, and then another.

Two days after the seventh interview, the candidate received the decision. Two days after that, the employer asked for one more thing.

The sequence ran from a recruiter and the role’s manager through a prospective teammate and senior leaders, ending with the CEO. The account does not say why the employer rejected the candidate, and neither can we.
